Experienced in shibari suspension and looking to expand your tying repertoire with world-class instructors in New York City? On Thursday, July 9th, 2026, join NYC Shibari’s Sam Jay and Zero-Gi one night only at Coil & Cord's AirFlow to learn one of history’s all-time greatest hits, their favorite Yokozuri Transition Sequence.
Taken from the Japanese yoko, meaning “side," and tsuri, meaning “suspension,” yokozuri is an iconic exploration of dynamic movement and technique with over 30 years of history. An essential staple from your first suspension to your thousandth, the concepts and principles in the yokozuri are invaluable for both bottoms and tops. For even advanced practitioners and rope educators, it's valuable to understand the yokozuri as an early building block of modern harnesses and dynamic transition sequences. The yokozuri is almost always the first suspension we take a new tying partner through, the first suspension transition sequence we take our students through, and a favorite song we return to again and again, as well as an essential foundation to our own signature performance routines.
While we will provide some fast pro tips for tops and bottoms on tying and side-loading traditional takatekote / gote / box tie chest harnesses, we require that participants use harnesses you have plenty of prior experience tying and safely suspending so we can focus on techniques specific to this transition sequence. Prior suspension education and experience is required for all tying pairs, and participants should bring their full suspension rope kit and suspension gear. While we are pro-switching and self-suspending, this workshop is primarily geared toward partnered tying techniques and most attendees will not have enough time to switch.
